Casentino

Land of woods and monuments of faith, of profound silence and revolutions of the soul, Casentino speaks the language of meditation and recollection. Here the colors win and dominate the spiritual atmospheres of the forest. The Casentino is the highest part of the Arno valley, enclosed on one side by the mountains of Verna, Camaldoli and Alpe di Catenaia, and on the other by the Pratomagno chain. Crossed by the largest river in Tuscany, the Casentino is rich in chestnut, beech, oak and fir woods, trees that make up the natural heritage of the Casentinesi Forests National Park and at the same time characterize two places with intense spirituality: Camaldoli, ‘Hermitage and the Monastery, and the Sanctuary of La Verna, where St. Francis received the stigmata.
